ZAMCOL, which is an acronym for Zambian College of Open Learning, is an institution offering Secondary Teacher Education, by Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.

The following are the requirements for enrollment.

  1. For serving certificate holder Teachers:
    • Grade 12 – Five credits, or better
    • Primary School Teachers certificate
    • Any other qualification obtained after Grade 12
  2. School leavers
    • Grade 12, Five Credits, or better

To enroll as a student you have to fill out the Student Application Form first. The form can be obtained in two different ways.

  2. You can also obtain an enrollment form from any of these points
    • Zamcol Offices in Solwezi (Zamcol campus) along Kankasa Farm road
    • Zamcol Centers in Mongu (NAPSA Building,) Chipata (NAPSA buildin), Kasama, Mpika and Mansa
    • From all DEBS’s offices in the North Western Province.

Once the enrollment form is obtained, fill in the required details, deposit KR50 into any of our accounts, attach the relevant qualification document copies and the deposit slip as proof of payment to the enrollment form and sent it to Zamcol Head office in Solwezi.

The enrollment form/enrollment process costs only KR50.00 (Subject to change)

The course will take only three (3) years to complete. The Three years are broken in two phases

  • Phase one starts from your first day in the first year (APRIL) which includes the Registration and the INDUCTION period of 3 days, up to the end of your PROMOTION Examination in your second year (AUGUST). •
  • Phase two: Starts with your clearing of the PROMOTION Examination in your second year (November/December) up to the end of your Diploma Final Examination in your third year December

The cost is divided as such.

    • Registration – KR50.00
    • Tuition fee – KR1,000.00 per residential
    • Boarding fee – KR300.00 per residential
    • Medical fee – KR10.00 per year
    • Identity Card – KR15.00
    • Computer Lab – KR50.00 per year

The cost per year is as follows:

  • Year One (Boarders)
    • Residential 1 – KR1,425.00
    • Residential 2 – KR1,300.00
    • Residential 3 – KR1,300.00
  • Year One (Day scholar)
    • Residential 1 – KR1,125.00
    • Residential 2 – KR1,000.00
    • Residential 3 – KR1,000.00
  • Year Two (Boarders)
    • Residential 1 – KR1,360.00
    • Residential 2 – KR1,300.00
    • Residential 3 – KR1,300.00
  • Year Two (Day scholar)
    • Residential 1 – KR1,060.00

Take note that in your second year residential 2 you have to pay KR300.00 for the Promotion Examination. This applies to both boarders and day scholars.

Take note also that in your third year residential 3 you will be required to pay an additional KR500.00 for the Final Diploma Examination.

Teaching Practice, comes after your first residential in the third year, in the second term of the school calendar. This will cost an additional (K500.00) and should be paid in the first residential

The college is registered with PACRA and the Ministry of Education.

The college is registered with the Ministry of Education and there is every legal requirement attained, so there is no objection that you will not be employed by the Government.

ZAMCOL awards the Diplomas in association with the Copperbelt University (CBU) of Zambia. Therefore the Diploma you obtain is a CBU Diploma, and the final Examination is supervised and organized by the University, with all the University regulations and requirements.

ZAMCOL is currently offering Diploma awards with CBU. It will soon start offering Degree courses in Teachers Education (in all the subject areas currently being offered), and other University disciplines which includes: – mining, Mass communication, Economics and management courses, Medicine and Agriculture. In short ZAMCOL is running towards being a recognized University College or a university in the very near future, with your prayers, encouragement and support this will be achieved.

The Teacher education subjects being offered currently by ZAMCOL are as follows:
If you choose to select from course schedule 1, you will be required to select only one subject area. E.g. Science or Business Studies. However if you choose to select from course schedule 2, you will be required to select one subject area from course schedule 2 A and another subject area from course schedule 2 B. e.g. English and Geography or History and Zambian Language.

    • ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS, HISTORY
  • Course Schedule 2 B
    • ZAMBIAN LANGUAGE, CIVIC, EDUCATION GEOGRAPHY, RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

In addition, after you choose your study area, either from course schedule 1 or 2, the student Teacher will receive, five Education subjects as follows:-

  1. Education Psychology
  2. Education Sociology
  3. Education Media and Technology
  4. Theory and Practice of education

Extra subjects are given to help the students’ success and improvement. All students from all study areas either from schedule 1 or 2 will be given 2 hours per week of:

  1. Research methods
  2. Communication skills
  3. School Management Course and
  4. One hour per week Computer Basics studies
